The people are gentle and kind without being foolish, which means they are deeply in the Book of Songs; broad-minded and easy-going, which is not extravagant, which means they are deeply in the Book of Documents; broad-minded and easy-going, which is not extravagant, which means they are deeply in the Book of Music; clean, quiet, and subtle, which is not thieves, which means they are deeply in the Book of Changes; respectful, frugal, and solemn, which is not troublesome, which means they are deeply in the Book of Rites; the use of words and metaphors to compare things is not disorderly, which means they are deeply in the Spring and Autumn Annals."
